A friend bought some blood pressure monitors for a kidney association, and
they came with ‘free’ bottles of Blackmores CoQ10.

According to the label CoQ10 is ‘Coenzyme Q10 . . . a nutrient that occurs naturally in every cell in the body, where it is involved with the production of cellular energy. High concentrations are found in the heart. Levels of CoQ10 are depleted with exercise and decline with age.’ The active ingredient is ubidecarenone.

The label also claims CoQ10 will –

  • Support normal healthy functioning of the heart
  • Reduce the oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol
  • Maintain healthy arteries and a healthy cardiovascular system.

Google is your friend.

“Dietary supplement, not necessary in normal health, may (or may not) provide benefit to some people in some situations, may (or may not) be safe.”

I wouldn’t be taking it. If it really works, sooner or later there will be some real science to say so. Until then there is the potential for damage to you health as well as your wallet.

I’m not too happy about the way it’s promoted either.
